BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)
At present the College is offering BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) Course which is of 5 ½ years duration, prescribed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, which comes under the Department of AYUSH, a Department under the Central Health Ministry. The Course comprises of 4 ½ years of class room study and 1 year of Internship. After satisfactory completion of the CRRI, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (B.A.M.S) degree will be awarded by The T.N.Dr.MGR Medical University.
ACADEMIC AND CAREER PROGRESSION
Ayurveda as our traditional indigenous medical system, is again getting recognized world over, as a perfectly safe and effective medical system. It takes care of the health needs of about 80 percent of our sub-Urban and village population. Now, that is the reason for the Central Government has included Ayurveda in the NRHM (National Rural Health Management) program and about Ayurvedic doctors are working in our country taking care of the health care of most of the public below the Poverty line (BPL). So, the job opportunities for the graduates coming out the college is enormous. Now Ayurveda is an inseparable part of the health tourism sector also. A lot many young doctors are working in the field. Government jobs are also increasing and a number of Ayurvedic Doctors are working as Medical Officers in the Government service both state as well as Central. Opportunities in Research side also is increasing day by day. In the Pharma industry also, a lot of job opportunities are waiting for the Ayurvedic Doctors.
Now the Central Council of Indian Medicine has been implementing the new staff pattern for Ayurveda Medical Colleges. So, for the persons interested in academics, after completing the B.A.M.S degree, they can enter into teaching after finishing post-graduation (M.D/M.S).
Post-doctoral Programme (Ph.D.) is also a possibility for the Ayurveda graduates, after which they can guide the students under various Universities for completing their Masters and Post-doctoral programmes.
